Global Rally For Ukraine

Halifax’s Ukrainian community gathered on February 21 to mark the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and to stand in solidarity with those defending Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty. The afternoon began with a commemorative rally at Grand Parade, followed by a photo documentary exhibition highlighting the human impact of the war, and a free screening of Children in the Fire, a film sharing the experiences of Ukrainian children living through conflict. The events brought together community members and allies to honour those who lost their lives and to reaffirm support for Ukraine. The commemoration was co-organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Nova Scotia Branch, the East Coast Ukrainian Association, and the Halifax Creative Ukrainians Association.

Daughters of Donbas – Songs of Stolen Children

Daughters of Donbas – Songs of Stolen Children was a performance highlighting the abduction of 20,000 Ukrainian children from occupied Eastern Ukraine. Led by Amnesty International Prize winner Marichka and produced with Grammy-nominated Dan Rosenberg, the project united professional musicians to give voice to children silenced by war.

Through haunting acoustic performances rooted in Ukrainian folk traditions, the concert explored grief, resilience, and hope while confronting ongoing cultural erasure—inviting audiences to witness, remember, and stand in solidarity.
