Becoming an ECUA member means bringing your vision, energy and creativity to the development of the Ukrainian community in Nova Scotia. The members must agree with the organization’s mission as outlined in the By-Laws and the Memorandum of Association:
On a volunteer and non-profit basis, the objective/s of the society is/are:
a) To support, promote, and share Ukrainian culture in the Province of Nova Scotia by organizing annual cultural events such as East Coast Ukrainian Festival and other events that contribute to the cultural diversity of the Atlantic region;
b) To strengthen the sense of cultural identity, belonging, and social ties within the Ukrainian community in Nova Scotia and Atlantic region through volunteer participation in cultural, social, and community events organized and supported by the Society;
c) To commit surplus funds to supporting Ukraine and Ukrainian people;
Application for membership
A person who agrees with the By-laws of the Society and wishes to participate (on a volunteer basis) in projects, events, and other activities of the Society may apply to the Board for membership in the Society. The person becomes a member on the Board’s approval of the application.
Duties of members:
Every member must uphold the Memorandum of Association of the Society and must comply with by-laws.
Members have the right to:
- participate in ECUA activities, including the planning stages of the projects
- take on a role of coordinators for specific projects or teams
- vote during the Annual General Meetings for the Board of Directors
- nominate themselves to serve on the Board of Directors
- remain a member for 1 year after which a renewal is required
