Petrykivka artist Valeriia Spirina demonstrated the steps of making decorated Easter Eggs using traditional techniques for applying wax with a pysachok (kistka) and submerging the egg in bright dyes. After each layer of dye was finished, the wax was melted over a candle and wiped away to reveal beautiful designs.

This time, Petrykivka artist Valeriia Spirina demonstrated the steps of making decorated Easter Eggs by first submerging the egg in bright dyes and then using a special awl-like tool to remove the coloured layer to reveal the original white shell (akin to scratch art). This technique is used to create intricate designs with thin, controlled lines and it doesn’t require the use of open fire.
